Caffè Florian – Piazza San Marco
A visit to the famous Caffè Florian on St. Mark's Square is a must for connoisseurs and lovers of Italian coffee. The unique feature: in 1720, it opened as Italy's first coffee house and you can still admire the beautiful decor from times past today. Your visit has the added sweetener of music played by a small quartet or quintet on a stage in front of the café. Incidentally: in 1893 in the Caffè Florian, the then Mayor of Venice Riccardo Selvatico, together with friends, developed the idea of an art exhibition. St. Mark's Basilica will take your breath away: the mosaics, which show the entire Christian history of salvation, radiate in the play of light and make the scenes appear alive.
