venice for lovers

Around Valentine's Day, many couples dream of moments of happiness for two in a special place. Where could be more romantic and exciting than the Italian city of a thousand bridges? Venice enchants with its winding alleys, the famous Caffè Florian on St. Mark's Square, the picturesque gondolas on the Canal Grande and the colourful hustle and bustle on the Rialto Bridge. More impressive still are St. Mark's Basilica or the famous Giardini della Biennale. Discover the highlights of the Italian city of romance.
Caffè Florian – Piazza San Marco

A visit to the famous Caffè Florian on St. Mark's Square is a must for connoisseurs and lovers of Italian coffee. The unique feature: in 1720, it opened as Italy's first coffee house and you can still admire the beautiful decor from times past today. Your visit has the added sweetener of music played by a small quartet or quintet on a stage in front of the café. Incidentally: in 1893 in the Caffè Florian, the then Mayor of Venice Riccardo Selvatico, together with friends, developed the idea of an art exhibition. This resulted in the famous Biennale – the next highlight of your Venice trip.

Giardini della Biennale

Away from the hustle and bustle of St. Mark's Square, an exceptionally unhurried Venice awaits you. A stroll from the Piazza San Marco to the Biennale treats you to a fabulous view of the Lido, a glorious park and the impressive pavilions that are used regularly for the international art exhibition – the Biennale.

St. Mark's Campanile

Those who enjoy heights must not miss out on a visit to St. Mark's Campanile, which you will also find on the Piazza San Marco. It is best to wait until early evening, for most of the tourists have then left the island and you have St. Mark's Square and the Campanile (almost) to yourself. The beautiful view of the city and the lagoon at sunset is unforgettable.

Rialto Bridge

While evening is the right time for the Campanile, the morning hours are the time to see the Rialto Bridge. In the heart of Venice, the Rialto Bridge spans the Canal Grande as the oldest bridge and is a landmark of the romantic lagoon city. Small shops on the edge of the road invite you to stroll and marvel. A tip: the Rialto market in the direction of the San Polo district is a veritable feast for the senses. Depending on the season, you can discover all conceivable types of delicacies there.

St. Mark's Basilica

St. Mark's Basilica will take your breath away: the mosaics, which show the entire Christian history of salvation, radiate in the play of light and make the scenes appear alive. This can be attributed to the various angles of inclination of the mosaic parts. Words cannot do justice to this breath-taking view.

Gondola ride

Venice is often described as a stony labyrinth. A gondola ride is therefore a welcome change and even enables you a romantic change of perspective: the view from the water of the artistic facades of the palazzi and corners of the city, which you have not yet seen, is impressive.
