A healing effect: How tiger's eye jewellery and turquoise-coloured jewellery help protect us

At THOMAS SABO, jewellery is more than an accessory – it's a companion for life and has spiritual significance. This is especially true of turquoise and tiger's eye, the stone colours featured in our

Rebel at heart collection line.

Ever since humans became cultural beings, we have bejewelled ourselves – hence the origin of the word – with treasures. Beyond its aesthetic beauty, jewellery has always been full of meaning, which remains true to this day. This is partly because – unlike clothing, for example, which started out as something to keep us warm and dry – it doesn’t serve a purely functional purpose. In this regard, the healing effect of stones and colours plays an important role, as they are said to perform a particular "function".

Opinions differ as to the truth of this. Perhaps, as with so many things in life, it simply depends on whether and what someone believes that has a spiritual effect. Historically, while cultures in the Global North often focused on precious metals, most notably gold and silver, other cultures in the world have always regarded spiritually-charged stones and colours as having great significance.

Our company's founder, Thomas Sabo, has been intrigued by other cultures’ approaches to jewellery for a very long time. In fact, his enthusiasm about it became fundamental to how he positioned and developed the THOMAS SABO brand from the very start. That is, with a personal, meaningful, but also self-evident understanding of the role that jewellery can, could and should play in a person's life.

This fascination is still an essential part of many collections at THOMAS SABO today. The spiritual aspect is most prominent in our Elements of Nature collection, which was created as a way to infuse freedom, energy and strength into the lives of all those who wear it. Inspired by the four elements – earth, water, air and fire – and their respective zodiac signs, this distinctive jewellery line has a characteristic unisex look. We have also introduced some new and unmistakable designs in our Rebel at heart collection, featuring the stone colours tiger's eye and turquoise, which are associated with certain healing properties.

Tiger's eye is said to protect those who wear it with the watchful eye of a tiger and has a powerful, dynamic energy. And what helps us to be strong in life? Harmony and positivity, which is exactly what the stone is believed to attract. The same is true for turquoise, which originated primarily in Native American cultures. For these people, turquoise symbolises protection, good luck and hope – especially as it promotes calmness, serenity and love. THOMAS SABO drew inspiration from this and has embellished a large number of his designs with high-quality, faux turquoise stones.

The two stone colours can be found in amulet-style designs, ornamental rings and bead bracelets that echo the tradition of lucky bracelets. Aside from the spiritual significance these pieces may hold for their future owners, they are a reminder of what's truly important in life.
