Sunglasses 2022: Five trends that are important right now

Sunglasses are essential accessories and really show your fashion credentials. We have put together the most important sunglasses trends for 2022 – along with the matching styles by THOMAS SABO.

25/04/2022

Hardly any other accessory can change and characterise a look as much as sunglasses. So for fashion fans, it's essential to have a wide selection of the most diverse styles to suit the occasion and mood. The perfect sunglasses are, naturally, those that combine functionality with fashion appeal. Timeless and classic styles that go with every outfit play just as important a role as striking statement pieces that form the focal point for an entire look.

How important they are was recently shown by top model Kendall Jenner's appearance at this year’s Oscars after-party. Even on the red carpet, she didn’t want to do without the pair that matched her Balenciaga gown, calmly facing the camera flashlights behind black cat eyes.

Sunglasses trends: What is important for sunglasses
in 2022?

Though the first rays of spring sun have scarcely ventured forth, the question arises once again: Which sunglasses are on trend this season? In short: After a period in which narrow micro-sunglasses dominated, the styles for 2022 have grown again. XXL designs, experimental colours and retro vibes are some of the most important sunglasses trends of the year, which you can also rediscover in the new styles by THOMAS SABO. Allow us to present them here.

1. Trend: Colourful lenses

They bathe the world in bright colours and make everything look friendlier. Sunglasses with colour-tinted lenses are part of the noughties revival, putting the resurgence of fashion trends from the 2000s back on our noses. Styling tip: Teamed with a colour-coordinated cropped top and baggy trousers, this style will bring out your inner “Spice Girl”.

2. Trend: Cat Eye

This sunglasses classic has not lost its charm in 2022. It’s still the case that no silhouette is as seductive and sophisticated as the cat eye. The “Audrey” style by THOMAS SABO also gets an extra dramatic update with high-impact frames in white, black or faux tortoiseshell. Styling tip: Teamed with chunky, gold tone earrings and red lipstick, these sunglasses create a Hollywood-ready appearance.

3. Trend: Round lenses

Also a classic: XXL sunglasses with round lenses make a strong statement, which our “Romy” style translates perfectly. Feminine and elegant, these sunglasses exude a subtle retro vibe with a metal nose bridge, and skilfully balance out angular faces. Styling tip: Teamed with a flowy boho dress, these sunglasses exude glamorous 70s vibes.

4. Trend: Panto glasses

Already popular on the 1920’s art scene, they experienced another heyday in the 60s and 70s, and right up until today we associate them with an intellectual, retro vibe. Panto glasses are round at the bottom with a flattened oval-shaped top, following the natural curve of the eyebrows to give the facial features wonderful harmony. The filigree “Johnny Panto” shades by THOMAS SABO get an extra trendy update this season with coloured lenses, making them a genuine work of art.

5. Trend: Square lenses

Square lenses take the sunglasses trend back to the 90s and are suitable for round faces, as they make them look more angular. In 2022, they come in an XXL format like our “Mia” style, which will set the pulses of 90s minimalists racing, especially the version with pale blue colour-graduated lenses. Styling tip: Team this style with a simple white trouser suit.
