GIFT TIP #1 - Expressive signet rings
Not everyone knows that Mrs Sonora Smart Dodd from Washington was responsible for the founding of Father's Day. Daughter of American Civil War Veteran William Jackson, Dodd wanted to honour her widowed father who raised her and five younger brothers alone. Thanks to her efforts, the first Father's Day celebration was held on Sunday 19th June 1910.
Since then, in the US the special day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June each year. Most countries in Europe have adopted the US date, including the United Kingdom and Ireland. In some Catholic countries in Europe, however, it has been celebrated on 19th March (Saint Joseph's Day) since the Middle Ages.
GIFT IDEA #2 – Authentic arm jewellery
Countries all over the world have been celebrating Father’s Day for the last century. In Germany it’s also referred to as Men's Day and many pay homage to this holiday with a male-only hike to a specific excursion point and celebrate with beer and traditional food once they’ve reached their destination.
In Thailand, Father’s Day is celebrated along with the birthday of the King Bhumibol Adulyade, on 5th December. Children gift their dads with a Canna flower and everyone wears yellow: the colour for Mondays, the day of the week the King was born. In Japan children also give their dads flowers, as well as handmade beer glasses and traditional Tiger Bracelet Gold Elements of Nature Tiger’s Eye Bracelet sweets.
In the UK and Ireland: a family Sunday Roast at the pub, watching the football match together, going to visit a beer brewery or whisky tasting are all traditions. Why not make it extra special with a THOMAS SABO gift!
GIFT IDEA #3 - Always on time
LAST BUT NOT LEAST #4 - Statement sunglasses
