Sign of the Zodiac: AQUARIUS – January 21 - February 19

RED AGATE AND AMETHYST AS BIRTHSTONES

Red agate is believed to symbolise good fortune and protect against evil. Its name probably originates to the place it was first found: the River Achates on Sicily. Even in ancient Egypt, agate was used to craft scarabs, worn by all Egyptians as lucky charms and protective stones. Agate is believed to particularly protect expectant mothers and their children, to support healthy pregnancy and to promote an easy birth. It is also the birthstone for all Aquarians born in January.

 

Red agate is believed to have the following properties:

·         It reduces psychological inhibitions, the suppressed and blockages.

·         It helps people get on better with words and others.

The purple amethyst is the birthstone attributed to all Aquarians born in February. The name comes from the Greek ‘amethystos’ and translates as ‘not drunken’. It was once believed that it would protect its wearer from the intoxicating effects of wine, something that is, of course, not true. The ancient Greeks also wore amethyst to protect themselves against witchcraft and evil thoughts.

 

Amethyst is believed to have the following properties:

·         It promotes self-confidence and stamina and lends its wearer serenity.

·         It supports its wearer in the event of nightmares, homesickness, stress and sleep disorders.
